  • Red Sands Groundwater Conservation District
  • San Patricio County Groundwater Conservation District
  • Starr County Groundwater Conservation District

GMA-16 also includes some areas that are not included in a groundwater conservation district.

On August 30, 2010, the groundwater conservation districts in GMA-16 adopted a Desired Future Condition for the portion of the Gulf Coast Aquifer underlying GMA-16. After evaluating numerous GAM runs and scenarios, the members present voted unanimously to adopt an average drawdown of 94 feet. This was based on the results of GAM Run 09-008, Scenario 10. They also found that the Carrizo-Wilcox and Yegua-Jackson aquifers were not relevant for purposes of GMA-16 joint planning; therefore, no Desired Future Conditions were adopted for these “sliver” aquifers.

The Texas Water Development Board is in the process of preparing two reports for GMA-16:
  1. A report on the groundwater availability model (GAM) newly developed for GMA-16.
  2. A report on GAM Run 09-008, including Scenario 10, water balance reports, and the proposed MAG (managed available groundwater) number for each groundwater conservation district.
Once these are completed, the groundwater districts in GMA-16 will be required to incorporate the MAG into their groundwater management plans and make any necessary changes to their rules to ensure they will achieve the adopted future condition.
